This is from a group workshop held at the school last year. It was held by the guys from Oooja.

The assignment was to learn Grasshopper with Rhino and create shapes by using Grasshopper’s graphical algorithm, and cutting the model on a laser cutter. We have tried to test our ideas in Grasshopper/Rhino, hand sketches and in smaller handmade models. Because it is a very complex shape, we have developed most of our proposal in Grasshopper, tweaking and turning the parametric modelling.

The Pier 2 at Aarhus harbour was our site. The project was to design a parametric architectural landscape for recreational activities.

Folded shapes were to cover the area, and we had to implement a lookout point, an open-air swimming pool and a pathway through it.

We are covering the whole area with one shape, which is changing depending on the location on the site. The shape is a square in the bottom, where the top is rotated. The height, top shape, rotation and the distribution of the shapes on the site varies depending on an attractor curve, which also forms a pathway through the landscape.

The water seeps in through the cracks, making the edge porous. The open-air water pool is created, because of the sloping surface letting the water in. The shapes are flooded and the tops pop up. From here you can jump from top to top or use them as offsets to go into the sea.

The highest point in the 3D model is the lowest on the site, because it becomes the bottom of the pool. The lookout point northeast is the area, where the shapes are lowest, so from here you have a good view of the sea and further away Mols. It is the only place that is open. The landscape is closed around itself, and viewers from outside can not see exactly what is happening inside.

Yet another old project from the beginning of 2008. I started with diffent sorts of landscape analysis to know the area and then started to form a building that had to have the function of a nature center. I decided to place my building right next to the forest and in a bowl shaped area near a small stream. The area required some extra thoughts on the design and therefore my building is elevated above ground and is standing on pillars. My center consists of two buildings which are situated on a bridge. They are pulled apart and an area in the middle is a new room that can be used in extension of the two existing rooms inside. The small building contains a kitchen and an area, where you can sit and eat your food and participate in different workshops. The biggest building contains toilets and an exhibition area and can be used for presentations. The shape lifts up the building from the bowl shaped area. The bridge can have a lot of different activities outside and be a platform to new activities in the nature. My thoughts on materials: roof and facade in zinc and the bridge in a hardwearing wood.
